The Martian

        In this novel, The Martin by Andy Weir, has a complex plot where an astronaut botanist, Mark Watney, goes on an expedition to explore mars. His crew mates have to leave him on Mars for crucial and understandable reasons, and now he must find a way to stay alive until the next mission comes.
         Throughout this novel, I have so far noticed that the way the author wrote this piece he must have had prior experience or did extreme research. Why I say this is because of the language and descriptions he uses which makes you feel as if it is actually occurring. Even though some of the technical language used to label things on the spaceship, etc. is not only difficult to pronounce, but to understand, the author/narrator does an spectacular job explaining in a more common language. At the beginning of the story, I loved how the first page starts with action. This is a very good way to get the readers attention right away, so they won't get bored and not finish the book. Also, the book is organized and structured in a very creative and neat way. On Mars, they have sols instead of days. The book is organized like a journal where each sol is a new entry. I really found that this was good and more realistic way of writing it.
          Though I am not that far in to the story yet, I have learned a ton more about pace and Mars which is actually quite interesting, and I now know another interesting way of writing a story. In a way. this novel is similar to the personal essays we are writing currently, only this is fiction. this is because throughout the entire novel, the narrator uses descriptive language and gives vivid details. It is about his experiences and what he has learned from them.
