never let me go-reading response

In this short story, as a reminder, the narrator follows the separation between a couple and their relationship. When I first read this story, I was very confused by the meaning and significance of all of the vivid details used in this short story. Once I reread it again, I initially thought the story had a greater meaning, and that it was all a metaphor. I thought when the story would say things like: the tin foil sparkled, or we smoothed the creases from the wrappers, or our fingertips would touch, until one day they did not; it meant more than the words it was saying. When ever I read some of these phrases, I thought they had a deeper meaning which meant like: the sparkling moments at the beginning of a new relationship, trying to smooth the creases or mistakes i their relationship, and they used to be emotionally close, but now they are closed off to one another.
Even though I like the story with that metaphor, because it means more to me, I also enjoyed the real meaning of this piece. The couple is actually a hoarder and it seemed to me like on of the partners in this relationship persuaded, in a way the other to became addicted to hoarding with them. This story was really weird, but one, not as weird as some of the other stories, and two, I thought it had a more significant meaning to it.

  1. I agree with you. I thought it had a metaphorical meaning as well, and the truth really surprised me.
