Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian is getting quite interesting to me. First of all, Junior officially moves to Reardan high school and on his first day, he meets Penelope. At first she seems really nice and Junior is really attracted to her, but then she gets feisty. Junior tells her his name is Junior, but when the teacher calls roll, she finds out his real name is Arnold. She gets really upset over this minor thing that wasn't even a lie because everyone called him Junior. After School started for him, he started to get bullied by one of his classmates, Roger, and he gets tired of it so Arnold punches him in the face. He expected to get beat up, since that's how things worked at his old school, but in turn Roger ran off and after that day, he started to respect him.
At school, Arnold hears a puking noise coming from the girls bathroom. He waits outside and then figures out that it was Penelope and she is proud to be bulimic. Since he knows this about her now, they become closer in a way. He then befriends Gordy, the school genius, and they have a nice discussion about how happy books can make you. He also teaches Arnold how to truly read a book and other smart things. They became friends, but not as close as Arnold and Rowdy were. When Arnold gets home, his parents tell him that his sister, Mary ran away and married some Indian in Montana. Mary sends Arnold an email, telling him all of the amazing things happening in her life and that she is truly happy in Montana.
